Why is this research important?
By 2040, it is predicted that the world’s energy supply mix divides into four almost equal parts – oil, gas, coal and low-carbon sources. Growth of low-carbon sources, such as nuclear and renewable, is not enough to curtail growth in energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, set to increase by 20% in 2040.
CAES researchers recognize the critical need to tackle pollution and reduce CO2 emissions from carbon-based energy sources.
