Why is this research important?

Waste is a fact of life for the agricultural and forestry industries. For years, companies disposed of waste by liquefying it, spreading it on fields or burning it, creating environmental concerns. Converting these wastes into valuable bioenergy products like fertilizer or methane would reduce their impact on the environment and provide companies with something they could sell or a source of electricity to help power their operations.

Current Research Projects

CAES bioenergy researchers are working with private investors to verify and validate a new design that could greatly improve the amount of energy or fuel gleaned from the anaerobic digestion process. The city of Meridian, Idaho is providing space for a pilot project of the new anaerobic digestion system.
